The Bruce Museum is a great place to escape to in the winter months. This special local art institution has received the highest national recognition of accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), multiple times. Shellfishing at Greenwich Point

This one will require some bundling up, but provides a unique experience for those looking for something new and rewarding to do. The Greenwich Point shellfish harvesting season runs from mid-October through May and is operated by the Greenwich Shellfish Commission. The taking of oysters has been approved for the 2025/26 season.

Weather can lead to closures so be sure to check before you go. Announcements are made regarding the opening, closing, or reopening of the beds through the local news, and information can be obtained through the Shellfish Hotline (203-622-7777). Permits are required and can be obtained at the Greenwich Town Clerk’s Office. They are typically valid for the whole season.

Greenwich Botanical Center

The Greenwich Botanical Center, headquartered in Cos Cob, is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization focused on horticulture, botany, and conservation. The Center is situated within the larger Montgomery Pinetum Park, a well-loved conservation area in town. The Greenwich Botanical Garden has year-round educational programs for all ages, art exhibits, and a greenhouse. Some of their events include a microbiome gardening workshop and a workshop that educates on the science of dyeing with plant-based indigo, among others.
